Great quality microphone, a resistant design, cosmic design and incredible comfort – all this is the Astro A10 headset, designed specifically for console and PC gamers, taking into account almost all the needs of the players. We tell you more in the review.

A10 is a gaming device developed by the Astro Gaming brand, which is part of a powerful division of manufacturers of the gaming periphery Logitech G. The company's products are designed for current generation consoles and PC, and A10 is directly sold complete with the MIXAMP M60 – the Xbox gamepad Model of Sound Management.

Like the Logitech G command, Astro pays special attention to the appearance of game gadgets, in connection with which the A10 got not only a laconic space style, but also as many as five colors, among which there is a black and green solution in the Xbox style, as well as white with blue – In the style of PlayStation. We just got such a sample, let's test it.

Complete and design

Astro A10

The headset is packed in a large box with colored glossy prints on which the device flaunts in the chosen color. The characteristics are indicated at the bottom of the box, the properties are described in the back and the design is schematically demonstrated. The cover is planted on glue, so it is not possible to remove the device from the package without violating its integrity.

Inside, a dense plastic tray with a hatch, to which a bag with documentation is glued. It contains a quick connection, a large warranty booklet and a separate memo with links leading to solving known problems.

The headphones are additionally wrapped in polyethylene. Separately lies a cord with two 3.5 mm Jacks. ASTRO A10 is removable, it reaches two meters in length. Protection is provided with a thick, very flexible polymer shell. There is a small triangular controller with a volume adjustment wheel.

The weight of the headset is about 345 grams (without wire). Coated with strong, but very flexible matte plastic, the headline is connected to cups using square rings. The outer side of the cups is also matte, and the internal side is glossy. The combination of the lights reflecting the light of the body with non -shy parts looks wonderfully.

The headphones adapt to the shape of the head, but do not turn. The depth of planting is regulated by rigid rods drowning in the cup body. The wiring connecting the speakers is sewn up under plastic, nothing sticks out from the outside. The basis of the headband is a metal rim with decent downforce.

The ear cushions and the inner side of the headband are equipped with a thick layer of very soft filler. It is noteworthy that the filler is covered with breathable microfiber. Its resistance to wear is significantly higher than that of leatherette. And in such headphones, the head sweats much less.

The release mechanism securely fixes the unidirectional microphone in working and non-working positions, and the shaft is covered with a particularly elastic plastic, which allows you to slightly adjust the distance of the speaker relative to the mouth. Flip-to-mute technology automatically mutes the microphone when flipped back.

The Astro logo is painted black on the headband and glossy white on the microphone cup. On the opposite cup, the name of the model is inscribed in blue, the rod recessed into the plastic and the fabric plugs on the speakers are made in the same color.

The Astro A10 does not have a backlight, but even without diodes, the headset looks like an expensive, reliable and undoubtedly gaming gadget in a sci-fi style (a little Sovietwave blows from them). Despite its decent weight, it sits very delicately on the head, does not put too much pressure on the ears, and does not dangle, but due to the modest size of the ear pads, it has poor natural sound insulation.

Features and impressions

Astro A10

The device is adapted to gaming realities through the ASTRO Audio program, which collects feedback from professional gamers and game designers. And in this regard, the Astro A10 is in no way inferior to much more expensive brothers, creating a clear and detailed soundstage in any genre of project.

After a few general checks, I stress-tested the headset in Hunt Showdown, where a hunter's survival largely depends on his ability to analyze and respond to environmental noises. As expected, the Astro A10 performed brilliantly.

With the Xbox Series X, the device also works confidently, the sound does not crackle or interrupt, as is sometimes the case with budget counterparts. The effect of virtual surround sound, provided by the streamer amplifier, does not work very correctly, but in the FPS mode, the device simply has no equal.

Despite the modest diameter, the Astro A10's speakers are quite loud, but the music in them sounds flat. The basses of the headset are powerful, but muffled, as if a pillow was used as a filter for low register drums, and in some tracks artifacts in the form of rattling at the midrange level are barely perceptible.

Astro A10

With the help of the USB-DAC equalizer, I managed to balance and distribute the sound a bit, but I would not call it satisfactory. Unfortunately, the Astro A10 is almost unsuitable for listening to music in high quality – the headphones are sharpened strictly for games in order to correctly place accents and give volume to explosions.

A pleasant surprise was the microphone, which is not only very convenient to use, but also perfectly captures the voice. The sound from the speakers does not flow, the voice sounds clear and colorful. From a desktop microphone for recording, the sound differs only in the presence of extraneous noise and the absence of a filter for interference.

Astro A10

Conclusion

Astro A10 is a comfortable, reliable, smart and stylish headset designed for console and PC gaming. It has an excellent microphone, a very soft landing and a confident, rich sound in games of any genre.

The main problem of Astro A10 is a rather high price (about 6.5 thousand rubles), within which the device has very serious competitors. However, if you're looking for very well-built wired gaming headphones, these might be worth a look.
